Tripod Bread Dough
Kneading Bowl

This big, 15" across, 6" deep, coil built bowl holds 2 gallons of fluid and can easily accomodate up to 20 lbs. of bread dough with lots of wrist room for vigorous kneading thanks to the flaring sides.

The brown speckled, creamy glaze keeps the dough from clinging and lends the piece a nice old-timey, country kitchen air. The hilly, gently rolling rim gives this stoneware bowl a decidedly raku look -- it's got the wabi -- it's got the sabi.

Sitting in the tripod I found at Goodwill, it has a robust, sculptural quality that allows it to pass as a piece of furniture when I'm not making bread in it.

Status: still in the potter's personal collection and much in use.
